Peters Map and Mercators Map

A Peters Map is a more accurate map of our world. It shows correct sizes of the continents, countries, islands, and oceans. The latitude lines in the middle of the map are big and as they get smaller as you go up or down. The lines of latitude get smaller because as you go up on a globe it gets smaller. It is the same thing if you go down. A Mercator's Map is what you were taught on when you were little. The lines stay the same width as you go up or down on a Mercator's. It makes it seem as if America is only a little smaller than Africa, Brazil. It also seems that America is the same size as Canada when Canada is only a little bigger than America. Africa and Brazil are much bigger than America which it doesn't seem like that on a Mercator's Map. Also on both maps America is in the right hand corner because it makes us seem like the best and most powerful country. You could cut the map in half and put America in the top left and it would still be a correct map. We probably would never make maps like that because it might make Europe or Asia seem more powerful because they are in the right hand corner instead of us.
