Maps

In class today we learned about all different kinds of maps. There is one called a Peters map and Mercator's map. A Mercators map is the normal one we see in most classrooms. This is the map you were taught on when you were little and it isn't is accurate as you think. North America is in the left corner, at the top, and as big as Canada when America is much smaller. It was made like that because people thought that the bigger you were the better people thought you were but no matter where your from you think your country is the best. Africa is only a little bigger than America on this map so we look better when Africa is double our size. I always thought Greenland was very big but I learned that it is 14 times smaller than Africa. So on the Peter's Map Africa and Greenland are the right size, and America is only as big as it should be. A Peter's Map is what school's should use to teach kids that bigger isn't always better.
